Eupheme

KA210-ADU-6F77D499

Eupheme is an Erasmus+ project which aims at:

  • question the idea of the "welcome" through a participative and collaborative process

  • give more awareness to the professionals in charge of the welcome of people living mobility (migrant and refugees) in giving them an hospitality worthy of the name

  • equipped the professionals in charge of the welcome of the people living mobility (migrant and refugees) with some pedagogical tools

Coordinated by Migrilude publishers in France, the partners are APAM in France, WHI in Belgium and We Νeed Books in Greece.

The project consists in making people in contact with migrants (newcomers, refugees) aware of the complex notion of reception centres and providing them with adequate tools. According to the Littré dictionary, to welcome means to receive well or poorly. We develop in this project the positive aspect of the word while noting that, very often, we welcome badly, without necessarily wanting it or knowing it, without asking ourselves about the impact of this reception which is not necessarily thought of in all the richness of its meaning.

Before the inclusion and integration of migrants in our societies, there is the acceptance of their presence among our fellow citizens.

The reception quality will depend on the acceptance of the linguistic and cultural differences of the migrants. There's no welcome worthy of the name without acceptance of the Other in his diversity, in his part of the unknown which refers to ours.

The project is named Eupheme, named after the Greek goddess of praise and auspiciousness, under whose protection we place our project and all migrants for whom this project is designed.

Our objective is threefold.

1. It questions the notion of welcome in its positive and benevolent sense by investigating the different forms of hospitality in the world. With our partners, we collect data from short or long-term migrants,

through testimonials and with professionals (researchers, clinicians).

2. It aims to identify this data, analyze it and make it accessible to professionals welcoming migrants

functional, playful and attractive way. The objective is to help practitioners open up to other ways of thinking and

functioning in the daily reception of migrants to have a decentred, more open, intercultural perception.

3. It offers turnkey tools to equip and train people working with migrants, on which they can rely on when in contact with foreigners seeking refuge in Europe, which they can pass on to their peers and their students through professional gestures accompanied by a coherent discourse.

The ultimate objective is to develop intercultural thinking among hospitality professionals and to match it with new concrete practices in their structures which will improve the reception of migrants.

The reflections that we wish to carry out revolve around the benevolent welcome of the Other (the foreigner) in its diversity.

Linguistic and cultural and in his life course. They lead to the establishment in social structures and cultural mechanisms allowing migrants to feel accepted and therefore respected in their identity, which is the first step so that they can open up to the understanding and values of the culture of the countries hosting them. It promotes an inclusive approach.

The project started in September 2022 and will end in June 2024.
