NextGen-GP – Next Generation Grandparents

Welcome to NextGen-GP – Next Generation Grandparents, an Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership project that strengthens the bond between grandparents and grandchildren through creativity, technologies and sports.

The project brings together partners from Spain, Greece, Belgium and Poland to turn everyday childcare time into shared learning, play and connection across generations.

About the Project

Across Europe, working parents increasingly rely on grandparents for informal childcare. NextGen-GP supports seniors aged 60+ and adult educators with a new methodology that transforms passive babysitting hours with children aged 5–12 into active, co-creative and skill-building experiences.

By combining creative arts, accessible technology and physical well-being, the project helps grandparents and grandchildren learn from each other while building confidence, digital skills and stronger family ties.

Objectives

  • Strengthen the bond between grandparents and grandchildren

  • Reduce the digital and social isolation of seniors

  • Build seniors' digital, creative and health literacy

  • Equip adult educators with practical intergenerational learning tools

  • Create open educational resources and an accessible digital hub

Why This Project

Many older adults experience social isolation, low digital skills and anxiety about technology, while children and seniors often struggle to find common ground. Family history and traditions are easily lost between generations.

NextGen-GP responds with activities that are free, locally accessible and adapted to different ability levels, helping seniors become active role models and custodians of family and community stories.

Activities

  • Mapping intergenerational care models in southern and northern Europe

  • Creating an accessible Digital Hub

  • Developing an educational toolkit with 24 activity cards across three modules: technology, creativity and well-being

  • Staff training events for adult educators

  • Local piloting in four countries with 120 seniors and children

  • Four local multiplier events and a Final European Conference in Brussels

Welcome Home International leads the project's dissemination and quality assurance, develops the Digital Storytelling & Creative Expression module, and will host the final conference in Brussels.

Results

The project will deliver:

  • An intergenerational educational toolkit with 24 activity cards, available in five languages as an open educational resource

  • An interactive digital hub

  • 16 adult educators trained in family-learning practices

  • 120 seniors and children directly benefiting from the activities

  • Less digital anxiety among seniors, and greater empathy and family history awareness among children
