Eupheme

The Eupheme project, coordinated by Migrilude publishers in France, aims to question and improve the concept of "welcome" in the context of migration and refugees. The project focuses on creating awareness among professionals responsible for welcoming migrants and refugees and equipping them with pedagogical tools.

The project partners, including APAM in France, WHI in Belgium, and We Need Books in Greece, work together to address the complexities of reception centers and provide professionals with the necessary tools to ensure a hospitable and dignified welcome for newcomers. The project emphasizes the positive aspect of welcoming while acknowledging that often, people are not aware of the impact their reception has on others.

Before the inclusion and integration of migrants into societies, it is crucial to accept their presence among fellow citizens. The quality of reception depends on accepting and embracing the linguistic and cultural differences of migrants. A genuine welcome requires accepting the Other in their diversity and acknowledging the unknown aspects that connect with our own.

The project, named Eupheme after the Greek goddess of praise and auspiciousness, seeks to achieve three main objectives. First, it explores different forms of hospitality worldwide through data collection from migrants, testimonials, and collaboration with professionals such as researchers and clinicians. Second, it analyzes and presents this data in a functional, playful, and attractive manner to help professionals working with migrants open up to new perspectives and intercultural understanding. Lastly, the project provides ready-to-use tools for training and equipping professionals to enhance the reception of migrants, enabling them to pass on knowledge and practices to their colleagues and students.

The ultimate goal of the project is to foster intercultural thinking among hospitality professionals and encourage the implementation of new practices in their organizations. By creating social and cultural structures that promote acceptance and respect for migrants' identities, the project aims to create an inclusive environment that facilitates their integration and understanding of the host culture.

The Eupheme project started in September 2022 and will continue until June 2024, allowing for comprehensive research, analysis, and development of practical tools to improve the reception of migrants and refugees.
