LEARN

In a world marred by humanitarian crises, refugees and asylum seekers often find themselves uprooted and seeking solace in Europe. However, their journey is far from over as they face numerous challenges upon arrival, including finding affordable housing, employment, and navigating language barriers. Moreover, they also have to confront racism and discrimination in their new communities. Among these displaced individuals, there exists a subgroup known as Students with Limited or Interrupted Formal Education (SLIFE), who have experienced disrupted education due to various factors such as war, civil unrest, or migration.

The heterogeneity within this subgroup makes it challenging to address their diverse needs. Factors such as their literacy level in their first language, prior educational experiences, and acquired competencies influence the amount of support required to learn English and reintegrate into the education system. Unfortunately, there is a lack of research in Europe regarding the educational needs of refugees and migrants with limited or non-existent educational backgrounds.

The LEARN project aims to bridge this gap and advance equal opportunities, access, and inclusion for this marginalized group. By providing tailored educational tools and resources, the project seeks to assist organizations with limited resources and participants in need of guidance. The objectives of the LEARN project are multifaceted. Firstly, it aims to create a comprehensive educational toolkit and structured training course for refugees with limited educational backgrounds, helping them adapt to the national and European education systems. Additionally, the project aims to provide high-quality learning opportunities and an e-learning tool that supports adult education centers and other entities working towards the integration of refugees and migrants. A guidance tool will also be designed to assist recently accepted immigrants in choosing the appropriate educational pathway and, ultimately, their professional route. The project further seeks to address the mental health and cultural adaptation challenges faced by migrants and refugees, empowering them to manage anxiety and stress caused by their educational experiences and breaking down barriers.

The concrete results expected from the LEARN project include the development of a structured training course, a digital toolkit, and a dissemination and exploitation strategy. The structured training course will provide a step-by-step educational pathway for individuals with limited formal education. The digital toolkit will support the learning process and facilitate access to resources, while the dissemination and exploitation strategy will ensure that the project's outcomes reach a wider audience, including institutions, public and private training centers, and other stakeholders.

The objectives of the LEARN project align closely with the priorities identified. By addressing the educational needs of vulnerable refugee groups and developing tailored resources, the project contributes to fostering inclusivity, diversity, and fairness. The structured training course, educational toolkit, and digital guidance tool directly support the integration of refugees into the education system and broader society. The dissemination and exploitation strategy ensure the project's outcomes are shared with relevant stakeholders, maximizing its impact and benefits for all involved. Through the LEARN project, vulnerable refugees will be provided with the necessary support to embark on their educational journey in their new home countries, empowering them to seek professional rehabilitation and rebuild their lives.
